Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Used Metal Roofing Machines (UMRM, we, us) collects when you use usedmetalroofingmachines.com/, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to run a classified marketplace, and we do not sell personal information.

1. Information you give us

  • Contact seller form. Your name, email address, phone number (optional) and message. We send these to the seller of the listing by email with your email as the reply-to address, and we keep a copy of the message for a limited time to investigate spam or abuse. We also keep a daily count of messages per listing.
  • Contact and financing forms. Your name, email, phone (optional), state and message. Financing requests are forwarded to the third-party lender described on the financing page.
  • Seller accounts. Email address, password (stored hashed), company name, phone, city and state, website and a short bio if you add one. Your company name, city and state appear on your listings. Your phone number appears only if you turn that on. Your email address is never shown publicly.
  • Listings and ads. Everything you enter in a listing, including photos, is published on the site and may be shown in search engines and in syndicated listing feeds. Private contact fields on classified ads are not published.

2. Information collected automatically

  • Server logs. Our hosting provider records IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps for security and troubleshooting.
  • Rate limiting and spam protection. Form submissions are checked against a short-lived record of recent submissions from the same IP address, a hidden honeypot field and a timing check. If enabled, Cloudflare Turnstile may process your IP address and browser signals to tell people from bots; Cloudflare’s privacy policy applies to that processing.
  • Listing views. We count page views on machine listings using a request that contains the listing ID and no personal identifiers.
  • Analytics. If Google Analytics 4 is enabled, Google collects usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser, and referring site, using cookies or similar identifiers. We use it to understand which pages and listings are useful. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on or by blocking analytics in your browser.

3. Cookies and browser storage

We do not set cookies for visitors who are not logged in, except any set by Google Analytics or Cloudflare Turnstile as described above. When you log in to a seller account, WordPress sets the standard session and login cookies needed to keep you signed in; they are removed when you log out or expire.

The saved machines feature stores the IDs of listings you save in your browser’s local storage under the key umrm_saved. That list never leaves your device except to fetch the details of those listings when you open the saved page, and we do not link it to you. Clearing your browser storage deletes it.

4. How we use information

  • To publish listings and relay messages between buyers and sellers.
  • To run and secure seller accounts, including email verification and password resets.
  • To review listings, stop spam and fraud, and enforce our terms.
  • To answer your questions and forward financing requests you ask us to forward.
  • To understand how the site is used and improve it.
  • To comply with law and respond to lawful requests.

We do not send marketing email unless you ask for it, and we do not use your information for automated decisions that have legal effects on you.

5. Who we share it with

  • Sellers receive the details you enter in a contact seller form.
  • Financing partners receive financing requests you submit, and may compensate us for the referral.
  • Service providers that host the site, deliver email, protect forms and provide analytics process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms.
  • Authorities when required by law, subpoena or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public.
  • A successor if the site is sold or merged, under the same commitments.

We do not sell personal information and do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

6. How long we keep it

Account data is kept while the account is open and for a short period afterward in backups. Published listings remain online, including after a machine is sold, until the seller or we remove them. Copies of relayed messages and contact form submissions are deleted within 12 months. Server logs and rate-limit records are kept for days to weeks. Analytics data is retained according to the settings in our analytics account.

7. Your choices and rights

  • You can view and edit your account details and listings from your account page, and ask us to delete your account.
  • You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to a use of it, by emailing . We will verify the request and respond within 45 days. Residents of California and other states with privacy laws have the rights those laws provide, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them; we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising.
  • You can clear saved machines by clearing your browser storage, and block analytics cookies in your browser.

8. Security

The site is served over HTTPS, passwords are stored hashed, uploads are limited to image files, and account actions require a logged-in session. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your information we will notify you as the law requires.

9. Children

The site is for business use by adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
