Roper Whitney builds sheet metal brakes, folders, shears, punches and notchers in Rockford, Illinois. The company started in 1910 as Whitney Metal Tool, became part of Roper Industries in 1961 and took the Roper Whitney name in 1970. It bought the Peck, Stow and Wilcox (Pexto) line in the 1970s and the Connecticut hand brake line in 1985, and since 2011 it has been part of the Tennsmith family, which added Roll Former Corporation in 2021.The Autobrake line of CNC folders is the product most buyers on this site search for. Built in 10 and 12 foot lengths with the Synergy control, the straight AB1014 and AB1214 models fold 14 gauge and lighter, the AB1010K handles 10 gauge over 10 feet, and the Kombi versions add a rotating beam for box and segmented work. Used Autobrakes have been listed at $39,500 for a refurbished 2013 AB1014K and $99,500 for a 2023 Kombi. Pexto foot shears, slip rolls and hand brakes from the same family are common and hold value well.
