Used Apron Brakes for Sale

Apron brakes, often called hand brakes or box and pan brakes, bend sheet metal by hand with a leaf that swings up against a clamped edge. They need no power, hold up for decades and cover most trim, flashing and box work in 16 to 22 gauge. The brakes here come from Roper Whitney, Tennsmith, Chicago and the Connecticut line, in 4 to 10 foot lengths. Check the leaf and clamping bar for straightness, the fingers on box and pan models, and the truss rods before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

What length and gauge apron brake should a roofing shop buy?

An 8 or 10 foot brake rated for 16 gauge covers almost all roofing trim in 24 to 29 gauge steel and .032 aluminum. Go shorter only if space is tight, and skip 12 or 14 gauge ratings unless you also form thicker commercial parts.
